What is a catechist?
Catechist
A catechist is a trained lay minister who leads worship, teaches the faith and runs a congregation or outstation where there is no resident priest or minister.
In the Presbyterian and E.P. churches the catechist is an agent of the church, often in charge of a congregation and its records. In the Catholic Church the catechist prepares people for the sacraments and leads the outstation between the priest's visits. Ghana's Catholic Church counts 7,413 of them.
Used by: Catholic, Presbyterian, E.P. and Anglican churches.
