“Know well the condition of your flocks, and give attention to your herds.”Proverbs 27:23

What is a presbytery?

Presbytery

A presbytery is a regional court of a Presbyterian church, made up of ministers and elders from the congregations and districts within its area.

In the Presbyterian Church of Ghana a congregation reports to a district, the district to a presbytery, and the presbytery to the General Assembly. The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana uses the same four courts: congregational session, district session, presbytery synod, General Assembly.

In the Church of Pentecost and ICGC the word means something different: the body of elders and ministers that governs an assembly or the whole church, not a region.

Used by: Presbyterian, E.P., Pentecost and ICGC churches, with different meanings.
