Vital records
Vital records are a church's registers of baptisms, confirmations, marriages and burials, each an official record of the event with its date and the minister who conducted it.
They are records of record, not conveniences: a baptismal certificate is accepted as evidence of a person's name and birth. They are also the source of four lines on every return.
