“Know well the condition of your flocks, and give attention to your herds.”Proverbs 27:23

What is a diocese?

Diocese

A diocese is a regional division of a church under a bishop, made up of circuits or deaneries, which are in turn made up of societies or parishes.

Methodist, Anglican and Catholic churches in Ghana all use the word, with different things beneath it: circuits for Methodists, deaneries for Anglicans and Catholics. The Methodist Church Ghana has 20 dioceses; the Catholic Church in Ghana has 20 dioceses including four archdioceses.

Figures a diocese asks for are the sum of what its congregations recorded. When each congregation keeps its own register, the diocesan figure is arithmetic; when they do not, it is a phone campaign.
